Rhapidophyllum hystrix

I only got a few Rhapidophyllums out of my first (and only) handful of seeds from 2008. There is not much "rapido" about Rhapidophyllum hystrix. It is a very slow grower, but it should be able to withstand cold temperatures to at least the same degree as Trachycarpus fortunei.

The first of my Rhapidophyllums planted out, a two year old seedling, July 31, 2010

A little new leaf is peeping up before the seedling is covered for the winter, October 11, 2010

Same seedling after the winter 2010/2011. I think it will recover. (The week after I had a spearpull, so probably no survival).

The second outplanted Rhapidophyllum after its first - and cold - winter, March 2011.

June 2011: No life in any of the Rhapidophyllums. And they should be cousins to Trachycarpus fortuneis? Hm, they behave obviously different.
